Audi SUVs are all synonymous with exceptional engineering and performance. That being said, the very popular Q5 has many different variants, so much so that even Q5 enthusiasts can get lost. Are you hesitating between an Audi Q5 and a SQ5?
In the following comparison “2023 Audi Q5 VS 2023 Audi SQ5”, Audi Blainville tells you how both versions differ from one another!
A significant difference in terms of powertrain
One of the key differences a consumer can expect when it comes to this Q5 vs SQ5 friendly faceoff is the level of performance. On one hand, the Q5 provides two levels of output with either the 40 or the 45 TFSI option, and a turbocharged engine with 4 cylinders featuring a displacement of 2.0 Liters.
On the other hand, the SQ5 goes even further with its powerful 3.0-Liter turbocharged V6 engine. What’s more, the manufacturer swapped the S tronic automatic transmission for the more effective 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox.
Performance
With the Q5’s Komfort trim, you get an entry-level 40 TFSI engine that puts out 201 horsepower and 236 lb-ft. of torque. It can get as much as 261 horsepower and 274 lb-ft. of torque with the 45 TFSI engine, which is available as an option in that trim and standard on the Progressiv and Technik trims.

Audi Q5
The SQ5, though, goes much further—or much faster, we should say! Its engine delivers 349 horsepower and 369 lb-ft. of torque, which allows it to reach a top speed of 250 km/h instead of 209 km/h for the Q5.

Audi SQ5
The standard Quattro all-wheel drive system is a feature that both models have in common. Nevertheless, the SQ5 benefits from an improved and permanent version of this legendary AWD system, called the Quattro Tiptronic transmission.
The Quattro Ultra version that is available with the Q5 has the advantage of optimizing fuel consumption, while the 2023 Audi SQ5 SUV banks instead on much sportier performance.
Moreover, the latter has a standard sport adaptive suspension that contributes to higher levels of comfort and road handling.
Differences in terms of cargo space and dimensions
From the perspective of cargo space and the dimensions of the vehicle, the two Audi SUVs are virtually identical. In fact, only the wheelbase is slightly different, with the Q5’s being 1819 mm, and the SQ5’s 1824 mm.
Considering its mechanical components, the SQ5 is also the heavier of the two, with a total weight of 1945 kg. In comparison, the Q5’s weight is 1760 kg. The SQ5 also boasts wheels with a larger diameter, that is, standard 21-inch wheels with 5 spokes in V design and a dynamic style. Depending on the trim, the Q5 has wheels that range from 18 to 20 inches.
As for the cargo capacity, it goes from 725 to 1515 liters, which in both cases allows you to carry anything you need.
Please note that the 2023 Audi Q5 and the SQ5 are both available in the Sportback trim, whose dimensions are a bit different. The Sportback trim comes in a coupe shape, with a sportier look, but with reduced cargo capacity (699 to 1469 liters).

Audi SQ5
Technological differences
In terms of technology, the Audi Q5 and SQ5 both keep up with the high standards of the German manufacturer. They are equipped with the latest to make your trips easier and more enjoyable. The main difference between the two is the standard equipment on each vehicle: The Q5 offers a basic model with the Komfort trim and added technologies with the Progressiv and Technik trims. The SQ5 is only available in the last two trims.
Accordingly, its standard equipment is the same as the one on a Q5 Progressiv. That being said, the Audi Q5 comes with a good amount of technologies, including:
- A 10.1-inch touch display;
- Apple CarPlay/Android Auto wireless connectivity;
- Audi Connect (assistance);
- Bluetooth compatibility for two phones;
- And much more!
Of course, with the higher-level trims you get even more. The virtual cockpit that comes with the Progressiv trim is particularly interesting, with its HD 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The system offers three different display modes to customize your experience. Note that a navigation system also comes with this trim.
A comprehensive set of driver assistance technologies is also included. But it is the Technik version that goes the furthest of them all, with such features as Traffic Sign Recognition, rear-view camera and more.

Audi Q5
Prices for the different versions
Of course, an important distinction between these two luxurious SUVs is the price, with the superior performance of the SQ5 ranking it higher in the segment. Here are the MSRP for each version:
